State of the Muses - August 2012

character: Aang ([personal profile] savedtheworld)
series: Avatar: The Last Airbender
tagging priority: ■■■■■: He continues to be my primary muse.
muse strength: ■■■■■: I think I'm still settled in nicely. There's probably still room for improvement, though.
cast strength: ■■■■□: Well our wonderful Gaang is still intact, and there's some wonder among the remaining Korras. Our cast is pretty extensive but there's still plenty of room for growth - for the present it's maybe the Fire Nation girls (Freedom Fighters could be fun too) and the Korra still has plenty of openings. There is still the lingering hope of Ikki's return, too.
plotting capabilities: ■■■■□: It's kind of easy to get Aang involved in things. Now I have him at the Welcome Center and the Appa rides have lead to fun stuff, while for this event he's negotiating with Moro, helping at the orphanage and performing some Avatary peacekeeping stuff. It's nice to have him in an environment where he can kind of be the Avatar in Luceti, and I hope I can do more negotiationy stuff with him in the future. And I keep getting new ideas for posts so yeah, many possibilities here.
general fun level: ■■■■■: Loads of fun. Even with the truckload of feels threads that have come about, I've still managed to have lots of fun with him in light-hearted threads, such as the ones with Jack Sparrow and Naruto. There's a balance between fun and feels that's fairly comfortable for me.
likelihood of drop: □□□□□: Nope nope nope

character: Greed ([personal profile] moremoremore)
series:
tagging priority: ■■□□□: Last month I was getting back in gear with him, but now I've fallen behind in him. Managed to get a new post for him, but I'm being pretty fail-ly on the tags.
muse strength: ■■■□□: I feel pretty hit-and-miss with his tags. I try some canon review, but I'm not sure if it's sinking in. It's hard for me to capture some of his dynamics with the canonmates once separated from the actual canon.
cast strength: ■■■□□: The remains of the FMA cast are still awesome. And luckily the remaining characters are pretty much all important characters for Greed. There's still other characters I'd love to play off of, and if I'm lucky we'll be getting a Martel, which could help me get things going with Greed. I doubt I'm doing most of them justice.
plotting capabilities: ■■□□□: He has potential, but I'm not using him nearly as often as I should. His latest post seemed so fun in my head - taking the cast out for drinks and trying to get a new gang together - but I think I've quickly lost my drive for the post for the most part. And I'm still not sure what to do with him event-wise or what direction I can really take him in.
general fun level: ■■■□□: There are bursts where I can have lots of fun playing with him. I thought I had revitalized the character for myself last month, but now he's lagging again. But maybe I just need to review that one episode again where Greed is just really fun.
likelihood of drop: ■■□□□: I'll try to hold onto him a little while longer, but it's not often that I feel into him, and when I don't his tags are like weights. There's a chance I can re-invested in him if we get Martel and establish a new direction for him, and I did just renew his paid. I still do love most of his CR and I'm glad he's been able get a nice dynamic with Vash.

character: Rock Lee ([personal profile] niceguypose)
series:
tagging priority: ■■■□□: Kind of infrequent, but lately he's been superseding Greed.
muse strength: ■■■□□: I feel like I'm still struggling a little with the voice. I need to go back and review the anime more, try to find any episodes with him I skipped over so that maybe I can get new insights. It's been almost two months but he's still being built.
cast strength: ■■■■□: Naruto cast is awesome sauce, and all Lee's teammates are here. Things would just be perfect for him if he had a few more (particularly Gai, Sakura and/or Kakashi) to play off of.
plotting capabilities: ■■□□□: He has lots of potential plotting-wise, but I haven't been tossing him around much. And wound up flaking out on the mission log due to my slow/hiatus which coincided with Pi's.
general fun level: ■■■■□: He is really fun to play out when I feel like I'm doing him right. I'll always treasure his shouting match with Naruto as he entered. I think he'll be more fun once I have a fuller grasp on him.
likelihood of drop: ■□□□□: A single block of uncertainty, but he should be safe for now once I tool him up.

Potential Apps:

I don't think I'm managing three characters as well as I hoped I would with my laptop back. And now I'm on the verge of four to six characters. So I'm kind of thinking things over and trying to handle one muse at a time.

Troy Barnes (Community): He's pretty much a definite at this point. I'm having a blast with the Troy and Abed Training Wings post, and I just keep on getting ideas with him. I still have to put together his app and I do kind of have to voice test him as his normal self... since I realized he's kind of putting on a character in both of the TW scenarios. I also need to review the first two seasons more.

Cranky Kong (Donkey Kong Country): Cranky Kong was my first successful muse back at Subspace and I'd love to take him for a whirl again. It's pretty light, easy and fun stuff for me - so much so that I'm tempted not to mentally count him as a character workload-wise. There's not that much review to do when I have most of Nintendo canon already memorized. I just have to work out the particulars of say how his fourth walling works and what its limits are (like how aware he is of conditions in the real world that made his game). I'm not exactly in a rush to app him though; it's a spur of the moment thing I'm running with. He could easily make a home in memes instead, he could be temporary for up to a few months in game anyway, since I'm hoping to try Wreck-It Ralph once the movie comes out, and both characters are based on the same arcade game.

Dia (Pokemon Special): He's still a question mark. He seems to fit the character type I've been going with and I could see having lots of fun with him. I've lightly considered a Pokemon character, and a Platina being reserved definitely sweetens the deal. However, I still have a lot of review to go through with him, and it's been pointing out that I'll be going on a sixth character who will be entering into a huge cast. Can I take it? I'm not sure yet. Once I feel good enough with Troy app-wise and review-wise, and possibly then going through Cranky's, then I'll try to focus on finishing the Diamond/Pearl review. If I app in time, I do, but I won't rush it. As much as I'd like to start immediately alongside the potential Platina, it might be wisest to pace myself then voice test him for next cycle instead of rushing in with a half-baked character, and then I'll also have a better idea of just how many characters I can juggle.

My other consideration is pretty much definitely on hold, especially since I haven't settled on a Spectacular Spider-Man character and have only just started reviewing the second season. Also possible other game considerations (Lost Realm and XI) will also be on hold with the number of characters I'll be doing. School will also be coming up, so I guess I'll see how that affects things too.
