State of the Muses - September 2012
character: Aang ( series: Avatar: The Last Airbender tagging priority: ■■■■■: I think my tagging's been getting more balanced, but Aang still is - and probably always will be - on top. muse strength: ■■■■■: I'm pretty much as confident as ever, just sometimes occasional tweaks that come from reviewing random episodes. Also The Promise Part 3 was better with his characterization, which is helpful. cast strength: ■■■■□: We have been taking hits, to be sure. With the Korra cast somewhat imploding, now the Gaang has taken a hit too. The remaining members are of course still so amazing, and there is definitely a silver lining in that Ikki has returned, which has helped me not to feel starved for canonmate threads. And we have Bolin now too! plotting capabilities: ■■■■□: Oh yeah, Aang's got a lot going on. Along with his various training sessions, I have also placed him at the Welcome Center, which is helpful for New Feather threads and giving him an extracurricular Luceti activity. I'm also waiting for the right mission to send him on that he won't be too powerful for. He's also had some heavy stuff (technically backdated to last month) which has helped him to estrange his Luceti life from home without changing his viewpoint too drastically. general fun level: ■■■■■: So much fun. And heartbreaking feels. But also fun! likelihood of drop: □□□□□: As never as ever
character: Rock Lee ( series: Naruto tagging priority: ■■■■□: I've been getting a lot better with him, and it seems like I have something like a balance between him and Aang at least. muse strength: ■■■■□: Reviewing has helped me to settle more into his voice, I think. Maybe not perfect, but I feel more confident. cast strength: ■■■■□: Naruto cast has been great as ever. He's been able to play off of the new arrivals surprisingly well for characters he hasn't really met in canon. I still hunger for more - in particular the likes of Gai, Sakura, Gaara and Kakashi, who would all be great to play him off of and help to shape him. But at least he still has close CR like Neji, Tenten and Naruto around. plotting capabilities: ■■■□□: Mostly it's training a lot. I should probably get him involved in more things, probably one of the Lucei organizations. It's easy to get him into any kind of activity when he can see it as some kind of training. I have to do better with him on missions, though, since I wound up doing not much of anything on either of the ones I've had him in so far. general fun level: ■■■■■: I am having a lot of fun with him. It helps when I break into laughter while writing his tags. likelihood of drop: □□□□□: He would fight me to the death first.
character: Troy Barnes ( series: Community tagging priority: ■■□□□: Not so high. I've only had a few threads with him so far and haven't been tagging around with him as much as I should. He and Abed still need to have their first journal post, too. But it shall probably improve once I'm more comfortable with him. muse strength: ■■■□□: I'm not sure yet if I'm at as a good a level with him as he should be. I need to do more review to get his voice in his head and to try to do my best to master the art of coming up with Troy-isms. cast strength: ■■■□□: It's just Abed. But it's Abed! plotting capabilities: ■■□□□: Nothing too much. It'll probably be easier to get him involved in some things once I toss him out more. And have him deal with his fear of celebrities. ...Hilariously, the event has caused Constable Reggie to now have much more CR than normal Troy does. general fun level: ■■■□□: When I feel like I'm doing him right, I am indeed having fun. likelihood of drop: ■□□□□: It's unlikely. I just have to work more on getting him more up and going.
So this has been Aang's (and my) sixth month here at Luceti, and I've been having a great time so far. It's been great to meet all you great people and to also have characters with such wonderful CR. Now, here I am with three characters again, just as I did a few months ago. Greed and Marceline are no more, but this new batch seems to be doing well. I'm getting into a better balanced groove with all my characters, and I continue to have my eye drawn to new characters too. Because lol I just can't help but consider a thousand characters despite Masa's prophetic warnings that I'll destroy myself. I will probably try a fourth character, maybe a fifth at most of next cycle, but only with careful scrutiny.
App Considerations:
Midna (The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess) ■■■■□:
-So I played Midna years ago at Subspace and initially I wasn't really considering her for here, despite Masa's plans for a Ganondorf. But one day while idly musing, I found myself wondering about trying Tetra, but I somehow wound up thinking about Midna instead and started to get great ideas for playing her in Luceti. Taking her from a canon point in the middle of the game (either directly after Zelda's sacrifice or possibly after Link draws the Master Sword) opens up a lot of potential for different things to explore regarding her mulling over the decisions she'll make later in the agem. Also, she won't know who Ganondorf is, so they can both be in Luceti without drawing the villain card. In fact, we've realized that this could allow them to have some intriguing-ass dynamic. She's probably the most likely to be apped at this point. Her voice still seems fairly fresh in my head, I'll probably just do some more review of her scenes (too lazy to a play a game just watch Youtube playthroughs lol) and try to get her voice-tested. She hasn't gotten anything on memes, so I'm considering a Dear_Mun or Training Wings post in the near future.
Dia (Pokemon Special) ■■■□□:
-He's still a contender. I've finished canon reviewing the Diamond/Pearl and Platinum arcs of Pokemon Special, and I'm trying to voice test to see if I can pull him off. We do already have a great Platina along with a potential Pearl, so that is definitely incentive. There's plenty of fun that could be had, especially with the full trio, and being able to control a Munchlax alone would be awesome. He is pretty much what's becoming my character type, so I don't think it should be too difficult (and the horrible Pokemon puns are already beginning to form), so it's probably more of an issue of whether or not he's redundant with Aang around. I should probably also test him on Training Wings (maybe waiting for the test drive meme) as his final exam.
Alphonse Elric (Fullmetal Alchemist) ■■■■□:
-This was a radical idea which was born from the ashes of dropping Greed. I've realized there's many FMA characters I'd like to play. Although many of them were secondary characters, I did the same thing I did when I was looking into apping from Avatar initially and thought: why not consider one of the gaps in the main cast? The most prominent missing one is Alphonse himself, who does seem to fit into the character type that has become mine through Aang. I'm hipster enough to not want to app him as his armor self (unless that's actually the less popular one? I am confuse), as I've come up with good plot things to come from apping him out of the end of the Promised Day. A lot of it would involve him getting used to having a body again and going through physical therapy to become the him he is in the series' last scenes. Maybe even a body/soul clash. I think it could be very interesting to play out. But I want to wait before I make a final decision, and it is unlikely this will come this app round. With Greed, I had thought I was good by skipping around and only reviewing Greed's parts of the anime/manga. But I since realized that a full review would have been better since I could have easily enabled myself towards a different character by watching everything. So that's what I'm doing... making my way through the manga to weigh things out. But so far, Alphonse is still the front runner.
Booster Gold (DC Comics) ■■□□□:
-And this one came out of the blue just the other day. Basically it came from considering three prospects: 1- Pi has been considering apping the Jaime Reyes Blue Beetle. 2- In the latest episode, Jaime laments not having a mentor figure due to the previous Blue Beetle's death. 3- One tumblr post wishes that Booster Gold, who was the best friend of the Ted Kord Blue Beetle, would be Jaime's mentor. So the idea has quickly been spreading in my mind of apping Booster Gold, especially if Pi does wind up going through with Jaime. I did get attached to the character back when I read 52 as well as his ongoing which was pretty worthwhile. And... well it wouldn't exactly be like reviving my old Captain Falcon, but some of the spirit is there. Since he's been conspicuously absent from Young Justice so far, I'd probably wind up taking him from Pre-New 52 Comics Continuity, where his connection with Ted was the strongest. Plus, I've actually already read a good amount of his appearances (with the main exceptions being his original series and a lot of the 90s stuff). It could be a real fun way to play around with a superhero character.
